WOD – “29.01.13”
Below is a breakdown of last weekends activities at the London Throwdown through the eyes of one of our members.
Right, now that the dust has finally settled on the LTD, I’m gonna share my observations on what was an unforgettable weekend in more ways than one. Judging aside [don’t get me started on that one] the whole competition was run fantastically well from start to finish. For Callum in his first real taste of individual competition he performed brilliantly, I know he was beating himself up regarding a couple of errors but he can take plenty from his performance as he did in fact progress forward from his starting position. Lee, let’s not forget was returning to the arena for the first time since he dislocated his shoulder just over a year ago. You wouldn’t have known it though as his experience and engine saw him climbing the leaderboard and had Pullupgate never happened would have gone into day 2 in pole position. What happened from then was sheer grit, guts and determination, which “should” have been rewarded with a place in the last 9 and then the… final 6. Following the ludicrous decision, the Purple army were left angry, confused but mainly worried about how Lee was feeling. I must say that the way Lee took it was an example to everyone. Yes he was disapointed but he didn’t dwell on it “Shit Happens” he said to me. What it did prove to me and all the purple army was, he was back in his rightful place competing at the top level and showing younger athletes how to do it. Worryingly after day 1 there was talk of retirement etc…….. You see, your not allowed to do that, as we all loved watching you smash up that field, your still hitting PB’s and challenging with the cream of Europe. So this is the deal, you keep doing it, we’ll keep supporting. Then you can go into the “MASTERS” and pack in at 60. Callum and the others will learn from you and eventually catch you up [Maybe]. Then you can pack in OK…………
Observation 2. Group Skills….
I thought it was amazing how the Purple Army managed to sneak in where both Callum and Lee were competing, given how crowded it was in there.

On behalf of myself and Callum I’d like to thank each and everyone of you who supported us in anyway you could, wether you were there in person or sent one of the many texts/FB messages. Apologies if we didn’t reply or acknowledge you at the time but we really are grateful for the support. I love the Sea of Purple and everyone in it, we were both motivated more than ever every time we stepped foot on the arena floor knowing we had you guys in our corner!!! Retirement from competing was spoken about after I was dealt a bad hand; however I’ve since licked up my wounds……..Bring on the “OPEN” and the road to the 2013 European Regionals!!!!
